Toronto and Montreal will be hosting the 2015 and 2017 World Junior Hockey Championship, according to The Hockey News.

Play will reportedly be split between the two cities in both years, but the gold-medal game will be given to one city per year.

This will be the first time that Toronto has ever hosted the venerable international tournament and the first time since 1978 that Montreal has been given the honour.

Hockey Canada will hold a press conference on Thursday in both cities to make the official announcement.

Canada has had great success at the World Juniors, having won the most gold medals in the history of the tournament (15), including runs of five straight from 1993-1997 and six straight from 2005-2009.

Lately, however, Canada’s dominance of the event has waned as the country hasn’t produced a gold-medal winning team since 2009.

Canada finished a disappointing fourth place in this past January’s tournament, the first time it has failed to medal since 1998, when it finished in eighth place.

In 1978, Canada finished third.
