The Boston Bruins have struggled to score goals this season, averaging only 2.63 goals per game, and hoped to add some offence as they make a push for the playoffs.
According to various reports earlier in the day, the Bruins were interested in Edmonton Oilers forward Jordan Eberle as well as pending free agent Chris Stewart.
Oilers general manager Craig MacTavish told Sportsnet’s Gene Principe after the 3 p.m. EST deadline that he had zero interest in dealing Eberle.
Eberle has 15 goals, 44 points, 20 penalty minutes and a minus-18 rating in 62 games this season. The 22nd overall pick from the 2008 NHL Draft has spent his entire NHL career with the Oilers and is locked up until 2019.
The Oilers are in the midst of yet another campaign where they find themselves near the very bottom of the NHL standings and some major roster changes are expected to happen before the start of the 2015-16 season.
The Bruins, who are currently only two points up on the Florida Panthers for the final Eastern Conference wild card spot, ended up acquiring Max Talbot from the Colorado Avalanche for Jordan Caron.
Meanwhile, the Buffalo Sabres ended up trading Stewart to the Minnesota Wild for a 2017 second-round pick. Stewart has 25 points and 63 penalty minutes in 61 games.
