Report: Bruins’ Zdeno Chara sustains broken jaw in Game 4

Zdeno Chara would be shaken up and bloodied after taking a puck to the face in the second period of Game 4.

Boston Bruins captain Zdeno Chara sustained a broken jaw after a shot deflected off his stick into his face during Game 4 of the Stanley Cup Final, a source told The Athletic’s Jeremy Rutherford on Tuesday.

The incident occurred three minutes into the second period of the Bruins’s 4-2 loss Monday when St. Louis Blues centre Brayden Schenn fired a puck that redirected off Chara’s stick into his face, sending him to the locker-room bloodied.

The towering defenceman returned to the bench for the third period with a full visor, but wasn’t medically cleared to play.

The best-of-seven series is tied at two games apiece.
