Report: Komisarek denies punching woman

Toronto Maple Leafs defenceman Mike Komisarek has told authorities that he did not punch a woman in the face at a Hollywood night club earlier this month, celebrity gossip website TMZ.com is reporting.

According to the website’s sources, Komisarek denied the allegations to LAPD investigators and his story was backed up by witnesses.

TMZ is reporting that witnesses told officials Komisarek and the accuser appeared to be getting along when the Leafs defenceman picked her up off the ground. After he allegedly refused to put her down, she slapped him in the face and then hit her nose on his head when he eventually did put her back on the ground.

Initial reports said the woman had told police Komisarek punched her after putting her down, causing her to bleed.

Earlier this week, an officer from the LAPD’s Hollywood Division confirmed to Sportsnet that Komisarek was being investigated.

“It’s an open investigation and we will not release anymore information at this time. At this point no charges have been laid.”

Last weekend, Komisarek told reporters that he had been asked by Leafs general manager Brian Burke not to comment on the investigation.
