New York Rangers goalie Henrik Lundqvist will miss at least three weeks with a vascular injury, the team confirmed on Friday.
The Rangers released a statement on their official website:
“Henrik Lundqvist suffered a vascular injury on Saturday. We have been conferring with leading medical experts to ensure the best possible care. Henrik will remain sidelined at least three weeks, until he is revaluated and we have completed the process of conferring with the medical experts.”
Earlier on Friday, Larry Brooks of the New York Post reported that Lundqvist had being experiencing intermittent headaches and underwent a series of tests and exams on Wednesday.
According to Brooks, the Swedish goaltender did not develop a blood clot nor is he suffering any post-conuccsion symptoms.
Lundqvist originally injured his neck when he took a puck to throat during Saturday’s game against the Carolina Hurricanes. On a shot from Hurricanes forward Brad Malone, the stick of Rangers defenceman Ryan McDonagh came up and lifted Lundqvist’s goalie mask just enough to allow the puck to hit him.
Lundqvist fell to the ice and was in pain for several minutes. He remained in the game, however, and played two nights later in New York’s victory over the Florida Panthers.
Lundqvist, 32, has a 25-11-3 record with a .922 save percentage in 39 games this season.
With Lundqvist sidelined, Rangers backup Cam Talbot is expected to make the majority of starts in net.
