Call it a slasher flick of a different ilk for movie-maker Rob Zombie.
The renown horror auteur, whose directing credits include House of 100 Corpses, The Devil’s Rejects and 2007’s remake of Halloween, is tackling a more sporty brand of violence by writing and directing a major film on the Broad Street Bullies.
The heavy metal deity met with members of the 1970s Philadelphia Flyers, who beat his beloved Boston Bruins in ’74, this week to dig up more stories from that era of hardnosed hockey.
Now reading Bernie Parent Unmasked. All I do is read books on The Flyers.

A Los Angeles Kings season ticket holder and lifelong hockey fan, the 48-year-old Zombie told the CourierPostOnline.com that the script is “like Boogie Nights meets Rocky” and will be different than the 2010 nonfiction HBO-produced film Broad Street Bullies.
“It’s the greatest sports story ever not told,” Zombie told the site. “It’s been told other ways, but not film. I had to do it. It reads like fiction. It’s so incredible.”
In addition to Bob Kelly and Gary Dornhoefer, Bernie Parent met with Zombie this week.
“I had a chance to spend about a half-hour with him and he’s a neat individual. He sees the potential,” Parent told NHL.com of the White Zombie leader. “We have a lot of teams in the National Hockey League, a lot of teams that have done well, the Montreal Canadiens, Edmonton, but there’s something special about the Flyers.”
