Move over, Arturs Irbe. It appears Latvia has a new favourite son: Zemgus Girgensons.

The Buffalo Sabres forward may be tied for 127th in points this season, but he leads all NHL players two weeks into the 2015 All-Star Fan Vote with a whopping 399,356 total votes.

To put that number into context, Girgensons has 158,994 more votes than the next highest-voted player, P.K. Subban of the Montreal Canadiens.

The top six vote-getters (three forwards, two defencemen and one goalie) will automatically be selected for the all-star weekend in Columbus on Jan. 24-25.

According to the NHL, over 8.5 million votes have been cast in 170 countries around the world… including Latvia, whose love for their only countryman in the league has Girgensons poised for an all-star berth.
