Why Tuesday is a big night for Sabres, Hasek

A look at some unforgettable plays, historical moments and great memories from the NHL career of Hockey Hall of Fame inductee, Dominik Hasek.

The Buffalo Sabres will honour Dominik Hasek by retiring his No. 39 jersey tonight at the First Niagara Center.

Hasek played nine seasons in Buffalo, capturing the Hart Trophy twice and the Vezina Trophy six times. He led the league in save percentage for six consecutive seasons beginning in 1993-94 and posted the lowest goals-against average twice.

  • Hasek’s deep list of career awards and records, including an Olympic gold medal, two Stanley Cups, six Vezina Trophy honours, and two Hart Trophies.
  • Ryan Dixon looks back at a tale of Mike Keenan and the Chicago Blackhawks nearly trading Ed Belfour to make way for Hasek to take over as the team’s No. 1 goaltender. Instead, it was Hasek who was moved in 1992 for Stephane Beauregard and a fourth-round pick.

      In 16 seasons Hasek finished with a record of 389-223-95 to along with a 2.20 goals-against average and a .922 save percentage.
