Glen Sather has held the titles of general manager and president with the New York Rangers since 2000. The 71-year-old is uncertain if he will return for a 16th year as the club’s general manager, the New York Post reports.

Sather was recently named a finalist for the NHL’s GM of the Year Award, but he is in the process of weighing his options following the Rangers’ exit from the Stanley Cup playoffs at the hands of the Tampa Bay Lightning in the Eastern Conference final.

“Sorry, I don’t have anything to tell you,” Sather told the Post before confirming that he was undecided about his future with the Rangers.

The Post has indicated that Sather could remain in his position as club president, but that he would likely hand over GM duties to assistant Jeff Gorton. Sather and the Rangers denied a request from the Boston Bruins and Toronto Maple Leafs to speak to Gorton about their GM vacancies. The Bruins named Don Sweeney GM last month.

Sather left the Edmonton Oilers organization in 2000 to join the Rangers. He coached the Oilers to four Stanley Cups in the 1980s and was general manager of the 1990 Stanley Cup champion team.

The Rangers have made the playoffs in nine of Sather’s 14 seasons with the club.
