The Philadelphia Flyers experienced another close call to a major injury Tuesday night when Brayden Schenn took a skate blade to the face.
Early in the third period against Ottawa, Schenn and Wayne Simmonds got tangled along the end boards and fell to the ice. Simmonds’ skate kicked up and grazed Schenn’s chin, leaving a noticeable red mark when he got back to the bench.
Schenn left the game for a few minutes to get patched up, but he returned to finish the third and even took part in the shootout.
This comes less than a week after Claude Giroux had his own close call to catastrophe. Giroux had the back of his leg cut by a skate in a way that brought back flashes of Erik Karlsson’s major achilles tendon injury. Giroux missed one game, but played Tuesday night.
