Chicago Blackhawks defenceman Brent Seabrook says he has not been asked by the team to waive his no-trade clause.
Seabrook was speaking Monday in response to a segment this past Saturday on Hockey Night in Canada‘s Headlines, where it was reported that Chicago had asked the 33-year-old to waive his no-trade clause.
“I haven’t been approached by anybody,” Seabrook told reporters Monday, adding, “I haven’t been approached by or talked to anyone. So it’s news to me.”
Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman is reporting Monday that the Blackhawks have been gauging Seabrook’s potential trade value with other NHL clubs.
“I am very, very uncomfortable with being on the other side of Brent Seabrook on this,” said Friedman. “But I understand, at least once this season there was a conversation between team, player and agent about his future in Chicago. That’s all I can really say. At some point this season, it happened.”
