Chicago Blackhawks defenceman Brent Seabrook has been suspended three games by the NHL for his hit on St. Louis Blues captain David Backes in game two of the Western Conference quarterfinals series.
Late in the third period, Backes was going after the puck in the corner and was blindsided by Seabrook, leaving him in a daze. He would leave the game and not return.
Seabrook, who said after the game that he was just trying to finish his check, was given a five-minute major for charging and a game misconduct.
The timing of the suspension couldn’t be worse for the Blackhawks, who are down 0-2 to the Blues.
