Team Canada general manager Sean Burke and assistant Martin Brodeur led the men’s hockey team to bronze at the recent Pyeongchang Olympics. Now, they’ll look to continue that momentum into the upcoming World Hockey Championship.
Burke and Brodeur are set to be named Team Canada co-general managers, according to the Headlines panel of Hockey Night in Canada.
The 2018 World Hockey Championship takes place this May in Denmark.
“That’s a tough act for them to follow because of their success at the Olympics,” Sportsnet’s Chris Johnston said of the GM duo. “But also the fact that this is a team that won silver last year [at the worlds] and gold the two previous years. The expectation is always high for Canada at that tournament.”
An official announcement of the GMs could come early next week. Vancouver Canucks head coach Travis Green and Carolina Hurricanes bench boss Bill Peters may earn consideration for Canadian head coaching duties, according to Sportsnet insider Nick Kypreos.
