The Ottawa Senators have hired Martin Raymond as an assistant coach, the team announced Friday morning.

Raymond has a long history of coaching with Guy Boucher, who was hired as the Senators’ head coach in May. Raymond was Boucher’s assistant with the Tampa Bay Lightning from 2010 to 2013 after working alongside him with the AHL’s Hamilton Bulldogs in 2009-10.

“We’re very fortunate to add someone with Martin’s diverse skill set to complete our staff,” Boucher said in the team’s press release. “He fits our desire to add an NHL-experienced voice and augments our group to the point where we feel comfortable with the ratio with which we’ll be able to provide individual direction to players. Given his existing familiarity with my team-oriented expectations, he’s the right choice to help in the implementation and growth of a culture that is conducive to success.”

The Quebec native spent just over two seasons at the helm of the QMJHL’s Drummondville Voltigeurs, with a record of 82-71-8 in 161 games as head coach.

Raymond now joins Boucher, associate coach Marc Crawford, fellow assistant Rob Cookson, goalie coach Pierre Groulx and video coach Kristopher Young in Ottawa.
