Senators hopeful Brassard will be ready for start of 2017-18

Predators Head coach Peter Laviolette speaks to the media on having more than a day off between games

The Ottawa Senators issued an update on injured centre Derick Brassard on Tuesday.

“Derick underwent surgery today in Cleveland, Ohio, to repair the torn labrum in his right shoulder,” said GM Pierre Dorion in a statement. “The surgery went according to plan and Derick will begin a rehabilitation program immediately.”

Dorion’s statement adds that Brassard’s expected recovery time is between four to five months. “We remain hopeful that he will be ready for the start of the 2017-18 regular season,” he said.

Brassard played through the injury during Senators’ recent post-season run. He notched four goals 11 points in 19 playoff games.
