The Ottawa Senators have recalled goaltender Matt O’Connor from AHL Binghamton.
The team says O’Connor will join the Senators in Edmonton, with Ottawa playing the Oilers on Sunday.
The move was needed after Andrew Hammond left Friday’s game against the Calgary Flames with a lower-body injury.
Starter Craig Anderson had already been granted a leave of absence from the club for personal reasons, leaving the Senators with Chris Driedger and O’Connor, two rookies who started the season in the AHL.
O’Connor was an undrafted free agent who signed with Ottawa in May 2015 after a successful three years at Boston University.
He started one game last year, giving up three goals on 34 shots in a loss to Montreal.
Senators general manager Pierre Dorion will speak to the media on Saturday (3 p.m. ET) to issue an update on the status of his goaltenders.
