Senators owner Melnyk releases statement

Ottawa Senators Eugene Melnyk is in urgent need of a liver transplant as a result of onset liver complications.

It’s been a trying year for the Ottawa Senators franchise, and most recently a trying few months for owner Eugene Melnyk, who desperately needs a liver transplant to fix his ailing health.

On Monday, Melnyk released a statement through the Senators website to update the public on his health and his fighting spirit.

“The act of helping one another is a powerful thing. You have lifted my spirits, and in the process have given me all the strength I need at this difficult time,” Melnyk said. “Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

“Words cannot even begin to express how thankful my family and I are for your expressions of support, your prayers, and your unconditional desire to help me in the biggest battle of my life.”

The 55-year-old owner was admitted to hospital three weeks ago due to the onset of liver-related complications, and has recently reached out to the public in hopes of finding an organ donor.

Melnyk also proclaimed his appreciation for all the support he’s received from the community, the media, and most importantly the doctors and health professionals who have been helping him and all the other people that have found themselves in a similar situation.
