Senators recall Harpur from AHL, Karlsson out vs. Red Wings

Erik Karlsson talks about the status of his ankle and how he is getting closer to returning to the ice for the Ottawa Senators.

The Ottawa Senators have recalled defenceman Ben Harpur from AHL Belleville to replace injured blueliner Johnny Oduya, while Erik Karlsson has been ruled out of Saturday’s game against the Detroit Red Wings.

The Senators will head out west next week with stops in Vancouver on Wednesday, Calgary on Friday and Edmonton on Saturday. Karlsson is not sure if he will travel for the game against the Canucks but could join the team midway through the road trip.

Oduya left Thursday’s season opener against the Washington Capitals after blocking a shot in the third period.

Harpur had two goals and 27 points in 63 AHL games last season. The 22-year-old was drafted in the fourth round (108th overall) by the Senators in 2013.
