The Ottawa Senators have recalled their top goaltending prospect, Filip Gustavsson, from AHL Belleville.
Gustavsson will back up Anders Nilsson in Tuesday’s game against the Carolina Hurricanes after Craig Anderson suffered a minor injury warming up before Monday’s practice, reportedly after taking a tennis ball to the eye.
It’s unclear for now if Anderson will be available for upcoming games against the Detroit Red Wings on Thursday or Winnipeg Jets on Saturday.
Originally a second-round pick by the Penguins in 2016, Gustavsson has appeared in 30 games this season for Belleville, where he has a 12-15-1 record with a 3.42 goals-against average and .886 save percentage.
The Senators also called up forward Darren Archibald on Tuesday. Archibald was acquired with Nilsson in a trade from the Vancouver Canucks on Jan. 2. He has one goal and two points at the NHL level this season and 13 goals and 22 points in the AHL.
