Senators’ Ryan Dzingel ‘fine’ after taking puck to head

Watch as Ryan Dzingel takes a slap shot off the back of the head in front of the net.

Saturday’s matchup between the Ottawa Senators and Columbus Blue Jackets was briefly put on hold after a scary incident involving forward Ryan Dzingel.

Midway through the third period, Dzingel was struck in the back of the head by slapshot from Senators teammate Mike Hoffman.

He stayed down for a few minutes, but thankfully was able to skate off under his own power.

Head coach Guy Boucher told the Ottawa Citizen after the game that Dzingel is OK, but acknowledged how scary the incident was for the player and the team.

“Right now, he’s fine,” Boucher said. “We’ll see [Sunday] what the final analysis is, but it was more fear than anything.”

The team did not provide any further updates.

“You feel for him. We care for the players very much,” Boucher said. “There’s hockey, but there’s more than that. It’s scary for anybody.”
