The Ottawa Senators announced Friday the team has signed forward Scott Sabourin to a one-year, two-way deal.

The contract will carry a value of $700,000 in the NHL and $100,000 in the AHL.

The 27-year-old is from the Ottawa suburb of Orléans. He has 77 points and 646 penalty minutes in 308 career AHL games and has never played in an NHL game.

Sabourin spent his final year of junior hockey with the Oshawa Generals, who were coached by D.J. Smith. Now, Smith is Sabourin’s coach in Ottawa.

In a pre-season game against Toronto last week, Auston Matthews was caught checking Sabourin’s jersey nameplate in a clip that went viral.
