Sens’ Daugavins misses wild shootout attempt

Kaspars Daugavins showed some serious moxie in the Ottawa Senators 3-2 shootout loss to the Boston Bruins Monday.

The Senators forward came inches away from scoring a shootout goal that would have made highlight reels for many years to come.

With the game tied 2-2 and the shootout tied 1-1 Daugavins, Ottawa’s fourth shooter, attempted a spin-o-rama with the blade of his stick facing upside down attached to the puck. The puck came close to crossing the goal line but was stopped by the toe of Bruins goalie Tuukka Rask.

Moves like the one Daugavins attempted are typically reserved for practices or skills competitions, but believe it or not this wasn’t the first time the 24-year-old Latvian has attempted that move in a game situation.

He was successful on his attempt while with the Binghamton Senators in the American Hockey League in 2010.

Unfortunately for Sens fans Daugavins missed his attempt Monday and Bruins centre David Krejci scored the shootout winner seconds later.
