SAN JOSE, Calif. — The San Jose Sharks have activated star centre Joe Thornton from injured reserve and placed defenceman Mirco Mueller on the injured list.

The Sharks made the move Saturday before their game against the New York Rangers.

Thornton missed four games with a shoulder injury after taking a hard hit from Anaheim defenceman Clayton Stoner on Dec. 31. He had played 319 consecutive games before the injury.

Thornton has nine goals and 24 assists this season.

Mueller has not played for the Sharks since being allowed to play in the World Junior Championships for Switzerland.
