Sharks’ Erik Karlsson to have hearing for illegal check to head vs. Kings

Erik Karlsson lowers his shoulder and hits Austin Wagner high causing him to leave the game shortly after. Wagner was dazed on the play, and struggled to make it back to bench.

San Jose Sharks defenceman Erik Karlsson is set to have a hearing tomorrow for an illegal check to the head on Los Angeles Kings winger Austin Wagner during the second period of Saturday’s 3-2 Kings overtime win.

Breaking out of the neutral zone, Wagner received a pass in the middle of the ice just before Karlsson laid out the Kings’ 21-year-old. Wagner was dazed on the play and struggled to make it back to the bench. He eventually made his way to the locker room and did not return.

Karlsson has never been suspended before in his NHL career. The veteran defenceman extended his season-best point streak to eight games with two assists in the loss.
