The San Jose Sharks will be without captain Joe Pavelski for an unknown amount of time while he recovers from a lower-body injury.

Head coach Peter DeBoer announced the injury after the Sharks’ 7-3 loss to the Vegas Golden Knights, saying Pavelski would be out “a little longer than day to day,” according to Kevin Kurz of The Athletic.

It’s unclear when Pavelski suffered the injury but he didn’t play in Monday’s game.

The 34-year-old is having another strong offensive season, and had yet to miss a game before Monday. In 72 games, he has 37 goals and 63 assists, putting him one goal away from tying his career-high set in 2013-14.

Pavelski is also currently set to become an unrestricted free agent in July. The Sharks have nine games left in the regular season and will officially clinch a playoff spot if they earn with one more point in the standings.
