The San Jose Sharks have signed defenceman Artemi Kniazev to a three-year, entry-level contract.
Kniazev, 18, was a second-round pick by the Sharks in June’s NHL Draft. A Kazan, Russia native, Kniazev had 13 goals and 34 points in 55 games with the QMJHL’s Chicoutimi Sagueneens last season.
“Artemi had a great camp with us this summer, where he continued to show his poise with the puck, intelligence, and high-end skating and edge work,” said Sharks GM Doug Wilson in a press release. “We are excited for him to go back to his QMJHL team and have a big season with them. Chicoutimi is a contender for the championship under head coach Yanick Jean, and we expect Artemi to be a big part of the team’s success.”
