Sharks’ Timo Meier fined for incident involving Canucks’ Del Zotto

San Jose Sharks' Timo Meier is given a game misconduct after he lay a questionable hit on Vancouver Canucks' Michael Del Zotto.

San Jose Sharks forward Timo Meier has been fined $2,403.67 for an incident involving Vancouver Canucks defender Michael Del Zotto, the NHL’s Department of Player Safety announced on Sunday.

The play in question occurred in the final minutes of San Jose’s 5-0 win over Vancouver on Saturday. As seen in the video above, Meier entered the Canucks’ zone late in the third period, controlling the puck along the wall, before being taken to the ice by Del Zotto. The 21-year-old Sharks winger eventually returned to his feet and struck Del Zotto in the face with his stick.

Meier was handed an elbowing major and a game misconduct for the play.
