Sharks’ Tomas Hertl leaves game vs. Canucks with injury

Tomas Hertl was slow to get up and had to exit the game after an awkward collision in the boards.

San Jose Sharks forward Tomas Hertl exited early in Wednesday’s game against the Vancouver Canucks with an injury and will not return, according to the team.

Hertl, who only skated 1:10 in the three shifts before leaving, sustained the injury while charging toward the Canucks’ net. He took a backhand shot on Jacob Markstrom, then appeared to have his lower body pinned against the boards by Vancouver defencemen Chris Tanev and Quinn Hughes.

The severity of Hertl’s injury and his status moving forward are not yet known.

Before the injury, Hertl managed to score the game’s first goal, snapping a nine-game goalless streak. The 2020 NHL all-star has 16 goals and 36 points in 48 games with San Jose this season.
