Shawn Michaels accepts invite to Penguins-Lightning Game 5

It’s official. The Heartbreak Kid will be live and in-person to watch Sid the Kid and the Pittsburgh Penguins.

The Penguins sent former WWE wrestler and icon Shawn Michaels an invite this week to watch Game 5 between Pittsburgh and the Tampa Bay Lightning and on Thursday he finally accepted.

The arrangement is based on the success of the Penguins’ “HBK” line made up of Carl Hagelin, Nick Bonino and Phil Kessel which has been on fire of late and at times has carried the team this post-season.

Michaels responded by accepting the invite through a video he posted:

“Everybody has just been so phenomenal,” Michaels said in the video. “I’m OK with being irrelevant — that’s why I retired — but you guys have made the HBK line so relevant, it’s been a blast interacting with everybody on Twitter the last couple days.

“So I want you to know that I have got my flight booked to Pittsburgh. Sunday, I’m on my way. The fans of the Pittsburgh Penguins have made this happen.”

Recruiting people into the hockey circle has become a theme of these playoffs with Twitter user Tony X gaining notoriety after discovering hockey while searching for a St. Louis Cardinals game on television.

The hockey world is always better when it’s inclusive. As long as there isn’t any in-game interference.
