Yet another NHLer is set to miss time because of a head injury.
Carolina Hurricanes forward Jeff Skinner will be out of action indefinitely after being diagnosed with a concussion, Hurricanes general manager Jim Rutherford announced Wednesday.
Skinner was hit by Edmonton Oilers defenceman Andy Sutton on Dec. 7 and has missed two games thus far. Prior to this injury, Skinner had never missed a game in his NHL career.
The Markham Ont., native has developed into one of the league’s top young stars. The 19-year-old currently leads the Hurricanes in goals and points. In 30 games this season, Skinner has 12 goals and 12 assists.
Some fans thought Skinner was the victim of a head shot, but the league did not punish Sutton for the hit as it was deemed legal by the NHL.
Rutherford announced that Hurricanes defenceman Joni Pitkanen will also remain out of the lineup indefinitely. Pitkanen has been out of action since suffering a concussion on Dec. 6 against the Calgary Flames.
