Stars’ Ben Bishop day-to-day after suffering lower-body injury

Watch as Ben Bishop leaves the game for the Dallas Stars with an injury.

Dallas Stars starting goaltender Ben Bishop is day-to-day after leaving Wednesday night’s 2-1 victory over the Calgary Flames with a lower-body injury, coach Jim Montgomery told reporters Thursday.

Bishop, 32, is expected to stay with the team through the rest of their Western Canadian road swing. The stars face the Edmonton Oilers Thursday and visit the Vancouver Canucks on Saturday. Backup Anton Khudobin is expected to be between the pipes for the Stars against the Oilers.

Bishop departed Wednesday’s matchup with slightly more than six minutes remaining in the second period after sliding from left to right while in the butterfly position.

The six-foot-seven, 215-pound goalie has had two prior lower-body injuries this season, one in November and another two weeks ago. He has missed 14 games this campaign.

“It’s very similar to the other last two times,” said Montgomery.

The two-time Vezina Trophy finalist is in the midst of one of his finest years, sporting a .933 save percentage and 2.03 goals-against average. He has also compiled a 26-15-2 record with six shutouts.

Dallas called up netminder Landon Bow from the AHL’s Texas Stars earlier Thursday.

The Stars’ final five games of the season are all against non-playoff teams. With 86 points, the team has a five point cushion on the Arizona Coyotes for a wild card spot in the west.
