Stars’ Benn to return Thursday; Oleksiak out ‘a couple of weeks’

Jakob Silfverberg and John Gibson led the Anaheim Ducks to a 2-0 win over the Dallas Stars even with a 36 save performance from goalie Antti Niemi.

Dallas Stars captain Jamie Benn will make his return from injury on Thursday against the Detroit Red Wings following a four-game absence.

The 27-year-old has been out since Dec. 31, when he suffered a foot injury during the Stars’ 3-1 loss to the Florida Panthers.

Benn sits second on the stars with 34 points (10 goals, 24 assists) in 38 games this season.

Forward Patrick Eaves will also play on Thursday, despite leaving Tuesday’s 2-0 loss to the Anaheim Ducks with an undisclosed injury.

24-year-old defenceman Jamie Oleksiak, meanwhile, will miss “a couple of weeks” with a hand injury also suffered on Tuesday, as per head coach Lindy Ruff.

The Stars (17-17-8) have struggled with their captain out of the lineup, posting a record of 1-3-1 over their last five games.
