Stars’ Corey Perry suspended five games for elbow on Predators’ Ryan Ellis

Corey Perry has been suspended five games for an elbow to the head of Nashville Predators defenceman Ryan Ellis during Wednesday’s Winter Classic.

The discipline to the Dallas Stars forward was handed down on Friday after a hearing with the NHL Department of Player Safety.

Perry delivered the blow less than three minutes into the first period of the game in which the Stars won 4-2. He received a game misconduct on the play.

Ellis, who was down on the ice briefly before going to the locker room, was placed on injured reserve by Nashville on Friday.
