Stars defenceman Julius Honka has requested a trade out of Dallas, general manager Jim Nill informed local media Friday morning.

It sounds like a trade has been the preferred option for both sides. Per Mike Heika of DallasStars.com, the club has been attempting to shop the restricted free agent over the past few months.

Honka, 23, has yet to suit up for a full season with the Stars. The Finn, who was drafted by Dallas in the first round (14th overall) of the 2014 draft, was a healthy scratch for much of the second half of the 2018-19 season and didn’t sign the qualifying offer extended by the team this off-season.

Honka tallied four assists in 29 games last season, and has a total of two goals and 13 points through 87 regular-season NHL games with the Stars.
