The Dallas Stars have named Hall of Famer Sergei Zubov the team’s senior consultant to hockey operations, the club announced Friday.

Zubov, who spent 12 years in Dallas as a player, will report directly to the Stars’ general manager Jim Nill.

“We are thrilled to bring Sergei back into the Stars family,” said Nill in a press release.

“He has been a big part of building hockey here in Dallas as a player, and we are excited for him to continue adding to that legacy in this management role. He has a brilliant hockey mind and his presence in the organization will benefit us all.”

Zubov, a former defenceman, spent parts of eight seasons in various coaching capacities in the KHL, most recently as head coach for HC Sochi.

The 49-year-old was part of the HHOF’s most recent induction class in November.

He recorded 771 points across 1,068 regular in 16 NHL seasons with the Stars, Pittsburgh Penguins and New York Rangers.

Zubov made three all-star appearances over the course of his career and won the Cup with the Rangers in 1994.
