Watch as John Scott and Steve Downie of the Arizona Coyotes try heat the tension up between the Coyotes and the Buffalo Sabres.

Steve Downie will likely spend the 2016-17 season playing pro hockey in Europe.

Downie’s agent, Darren Ferris, says his client is currently considering an offer to play in the KHL.

The 29-year-old split last season between the Arizona Coyotes and AHL’s Springfield Falcons. In 26 games with the Coyotes, Downie scored three goals and three assists while registering 53 penalty minutes.

He appeared in eight games with the Falcons after clearing waivers on Jan. 18 where he scored one goal and an assist along with 24 penalty minutes.

Downie’s one-year, $1.75 million contract expired on July 1 making him an unrestricted free agent.

A native of Newmarket, Ont., Downie’s best season came in 2009-10 when he scored a career-high 22 goals and 46 points in 79 games with the Tampa Bay Lightning.

Originally a first-round pick of the Philadelphia Flyers in 2005, Downie has appeared in 434 career NHL games scoring 76 goals, 196 points and 1,057 penalty minutes.
