Like welcoming back well-worn former greats like Doug Gilmour and Wendel Clark far past their primes, it should come as no surprise that Toronto Maple Leafs fans make for devoted lovers who are inclined to get back together with an ex.

According to a Match.com survey of Canadian hockey fans, 42 per cent of Maple Leafs fans say they have gotten back together with a former lover.

The survey offers a glimpse into the dating styles of hockey fans across the country, with 36 per cent of Maple Leafs fans admitting they would marry someone who their family does not approve of. Those types of unions always work out so well. Hey, it’s almost like purchasing a David Clarkson jersey only to see that relationship end in a divorce less than two years later.

Calgary Flames fans bring the heat as they are the most likely to “sext” and consider “bad kissing” a relationship deal breaker.

The Edmonton Oilers’ penchant for overspending in order to entice free agents and/or absorbing a bad deal has rubbed off on fans, apparently. 22 per cent of Oilers fans would spend $60-$80 on a first date. It’s not so bad, Nikita Nikitin is almost an NHL defenceman at $4.5 million annually.

Tell us how you really feel about Evander Kane, Winnipeg Jets fans. 55 per cent of hockey watching Manitobans believe it is important to stay friends with an ex. They’re also the least likely to believe in love at first sight (37 per cent).

Montreal Canadiens fans demand their lover’s undivided attention. 58 per cent said they are turned off by their date constantly checking a phone and ignoring them.

Vancouver Canucks fans keep things liberal with 60 per cent admitting to being open to having one-night stands. Eighty per cent of Canucks fans also say they’re dating life is unaffected during NHL playoffs. Coming up empty in three chances at a Stanley Cup in 40-plus years can have that effect.

Match.com’s survey reveals Ottawa Senators fans as the “stay-at-home defencemen” of the dating world.

Nearly 60 per cent have never had a one-night stand, while 63 per cent prefer to turn the lights off when it comes time to get intimate.
