Contract talks between the Montreal Canadiens and restricted free agent defenceman P.K. Subban have ‘cooled off’, according to Sportsnet’s Nick Kypreos.
Sounding like @pksubban1 #Canadiens contract
talks have cooled off. Unless a drastic change of heart tonite, it
appears they’ll go into Sun— Nick Kypreos (@RealKyper) January 12,

The Rexdale, Ont., native has been in contract talks with the Canadiens since the NHL lockout ended on Jan. 5.
Subban has openly stated his desire to return to Montreal.
“How many players come to Montreal and say I want to play my whole career here? Not too many. I’m not a player where you’re not sure if I can perform or not. It’s not about that,” Subban said to the Montreal Gazette Friday.
“I’ve stayed true to the process. I haven’t wavered. I have tons of respect for Marc Bergevin and the organization and the way they’ve conducted themselves through this whole thing.”
Subban earned $875,000 last season in the final year of his entry-level contract. If a new deal is not agreed upon by Sunday, the 23-year-old will miss the start of training camp which begins Sunday.
While it’s now doubtful @pksubban1 will be in camp in
the am, there is still hope Del Zotto and the Rangers can get it done
tonight.— Daren Millard (@darenmillard) January 12,

Subban recorded seven goals and 29 assists last season, while amassing 119 penalty minutes in 81 games.
