Tampa Bay Lightning forward Ryan Callahan skated at his team’s practice Thursday, just three days after undergoing an emergency appendectomy.
Callahan was sent to Tampa General Hospital Monday after experiencing abdominal pain and was unable to suit up for Tuesday’s Game 6 matchup against the Montreal Canadiens following his procedure. The Lightning won without Callahan to move onto the Eastern Conference final for the first time since 2011, but it appears he’s nearing a return.

It’s unclear at this time if the 30-year-old will be ready for Game 1 against the New York Rangers Saturday, but there’s no doubting Callahan is motivated to get back into the lineup as soon as possible.
The Rochester, N.Y., native spent eight years with the Rangers — three years as captain — before being dealt to the Lightning in a deal that sent veteran Martin St. Louis to New York prior to last year’s trade deadline.
Callahan has three assists, a plus-7 rating and has averaged 18:17 in ice-time through 12 playoff games this season.
