Taylor to SEL; Flames’ goaltending picture cloudy

What will the Flames goaltending situation look like next season?

Perennial No. 1 Miikka Kiprusoff is waiting to make a decision on his future, and still the team does not know if he is coming back or retiring.

Toss in Swiss keeper Reto Berra; Karri Ramo, who will be signed July 5 out of the KHL; and the already-inked Joey MacDonald, and there are plenty of bodies to try in net next.

With that, it’s no surprise goaltender Danny Taylor signed with Färjestad BK of the Swedish Elite League on Tuesday; he was told there was no room for him in Calgary.

I know the numbers he put up last year in the AHL. I know he played two games with the Flames and was OK. Truth is, the organization is going in a new direction.

While Taylor was hoping for a chance in Calgary, it was simply not going to happen. Really through no fault of his own.

This was the best move for Danny Taylor. A sure thing for some decent money — something he hasn’t had a lot of luck with.

As for the Flames, the last line of defence is a long way from settled.
