Team Finland has named Minnesota Wild forward Mikko Koivu captain for the 2016 World Cup of Hockey.
Koivu has served as Wild captain for the past eight seasons. The 33-year-old totalled 17 goals and 56 points in 82 games to lead the Wild in scoring in 2015-16.
Koivu was a member of Finland’s 2004 World Cup team that finished as the tournament runner-up to Team Canada. The native of Turku, Finland has captained Team Finland in three world championship tournaments, including the 2011 team that captured gold in Slovakia.
Koivu has scored 161 goals and totalled 556 points in 763 career games.
