A third player on the Colorado Avalanche has tested positive for COVID-19, the NHL announced Tuesday.
“The Colorado Avalanche were advised this morning that a third player has tested positive for COVID-19,” said a statement tweeted by the league. “The player is in self-isolation and has not had close contact with any other Avalanche players of staff members.”
The Avalanche announced March 26 and March 28 that two players had contracted the coronavirus, the second of which had already recovered by the time the team revealed the diagnosis.
This is the eighth known positive case of COVID-19 among NHL players – three members of the Avalanche and five members of the Ottawa Senators.
The 2019-20 NHL season has been on pause since March 12 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
