Tim Gleason has decided to end his professional tryout with the Carolina Hurricanes.

The 32-year-old defenceman had been practicing with the club for a week in hopes of getting a contract.

Gleason spent the bulk of his NHL career in Carolina, playing 546 games with the team, reaching 107 points and 537 penalty minutes.

He’s the franchise-leader in penalty minutes, and second in games played by a defenceman, and second in games played from the blue line.

The American also played for the Los Angeles Kings, Toronto Maple Leafs and Carolina Hurricanes, and won a silver medal with Team USA at the 2010 Vancouver Olympics.
