Tim Gleason practising with Hurricanes

The Oilers will get an up close look at a super rookie not named McDavid when Panarin and the Blackhawks visit Edmonton Wednesday night.

Free agent Tim Gleason is practising with the Carolina Hurricanes in an attempt to earn an NHL contract according to the Hurricanes website.

Gleason played in Carolina for parts of eight seasons before being traded to the Toronto Maple Leafs in the 2013-14 season.

He returned to the Hurricanes the following year after being bought out by the Leafs, and was traded to the Washington Capitals on Feb. 28.

The physical defenceman won a silver medal at the 2010 Olympics playing on Team USA. In 727 NHL games, he has 142 points and 701 penalty minutes.
