Kimmo Timonen’s long road back to playing full-time took a positive step on Thursday as he announced that he will resume skating with the Philadelphia Flyers.
Timonen has missed the entire season with blood clots in both his lungs and legs. The Finnish defenceman discovered the clots last summer.

It was reported in January that Timonen’s future was in doubt after the blood clots were gone from his lungs, but not his right leg.
The 39-year-old is a four-time Olympic medallist and has suited up in 1,092 NHL games with both the Flyers and Nashville Predators.
Even with his return to skating on Friday, both Timonen and Flyers general manager Ron Hextall believe it’s premature to list a return date.

Philadelphia has been on a roll lately, having won its last four straight. Despite the streak, heading into Thursday’s action, the Flyers were fifth in the Metropolitan Division with 51 points and 10 points behind Boston for the second wild-card spot.
