Boston Bruins defenceman Torey Krug made significant contact with the head of Montreal Canadiens forward Andrew Shaw on Monday, and the NHL is reviewing the play to determine if supplemental discipline is required.
Krug caught Shaw in the first period of Monday’s game, as Shaw was trying to reach a puck at centre ice.
Shaw was left the game bloodied, but he was able to return.
“I was just going for the puck and I assumed Andrew Shaw was going to hit me,” said Krug of the hit. “I saw him, I knew who it was, and I just assumed he was going to play the body because he’s a physical player.”
There was no penalty called on the play.
