It what can only be described as one of the biggest upsets in Stanley Cup Playoffs history, the Columbus Blue Jackets have completed an astonishing first-round sweep of the Tampa Bay Lightning.
Tampa Bay tied the NHL record for most wins in a season with 62 and were widely considered to be the favorite to take home Lord Stanley’s prize.
Conversely, the Blue Jackets had never won a playoff series in their existence and had won a total of five playoff games since they entered the league in the 2000-01 season.
Understandably, #HockeyTwitter had an absolute field day.

Oilers and Sens had rough seasons. But neither team embarrassed themselves as badly as Tampa Bay just did.

There was a lot of NHL history made on Tuesday night. For the top-seeded Lightning, none of it was good.
Congrats to the Blue Jackets on their first-ever playoff series win ever. https://t.co/soFiiZbtjx

Tampa Bay Lightning swept by the Columbus Blue Jackets in a historic upset. Tampa Bay has the best record in NHL history to not record a playoff victory pic.twitter.com/inJrfSoeaq
