Waiver watch: Oilers’ Gazdic, Jets’ Halischuk go unclaimed

Nick Kypreos was awed by how good Connor McDavid was in his return to game action in the NHL. But where does the Edmonton Oilers go from here now to build off McDavid?

As was the case Wednesday, two more forwards from Western Canadian clubs cleared waivers Thursday at noon.

Edmonton Oilers left wing Luke Gazdic, 26, and Winnipeg Jets right wing Matt Halischuk, 27, will both be sent down to the AHL.

The 225-pound, bruising Gazdic has one goal and 22 penalty minutes and a minus-6 rating in 28 contests with the Oilers this season.

Halischuk has failed to register a point in 13 games with Winnipeg this year. He has put up four goals and four assists in 28 games with the Manitoba Moose, whom he is set to rejoin.
