New York Islanders forward Mikhail Grabovski was forced to leave the ice after taking a scary hit from John Scott of the San Jose Sharks in the first period of the Isles’ 4-3 shootout win Thursday.
Grabovski looked to retrieve a loose puck at the top of the circle in the Sharks zone, but as he gained possession he was met by Scott. It didn’t appear that the initial point of contact was Grabovski’s helmet, however when he fell his head bounced off the ice.
The 30-year-old Belarusian was attended to by trainers and assisted off the ice. The team announced on Twitter that Grabovski would not return to the game with what they called an upper-body injury. According to Newsday’s Arthur Staple, Grabovski does not have a concussion and will be evaluated Friday.
Scott, who has one goal and no penalty minutes in two games this season, was not penalized on the play.
Grabovski was off to a strong start to the season with two goals, one assist in his first three games.
