You don’t speak Finnish, so why are you excited to see a Finnish documentary about a Finnish hockey player that’s entirely in Finnish?
Because the quality of Selanne (stylized slickly here as SEL8NNE) — the forthcoming doc on everyone’s favourite 43-year-old NHL star — translates across all languages. Just check out the 107-second trailer below.
In terms of picture quality, emotion and footage variety (piloting a fighter jet, boating as a child, heaving chunky barbells skyward), Selanne screams must-see for hockey fans.
“We’re going quite deep. The story has to be honest and right, otherwise it’s not worth it,” Selanne explained to Finnish website mtv3.fi last year. “We can see things in the movie that you wouldn’t see otherwise.”
Directed by Jukka-Pekka Siili, the biopic is set to debut Sept. 27 in the age-defying player’s home country. Plenty of time for Siili to throw some subtitles on this flick.
